Political Parties and Allies in Assam
GUWAHATI: Assam Assembly Election 2021 is scheduled to be held from 27th March in three-phase, the first phase to be held on 27th March, the second phase on 1st April and the last phase on 6th of April.

This year several new regional political parties were formed. Among them, two important parties that are going to become a deciding factor for the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) are Assam Jatiya Parishad(AJP) founded by former All Assam Student Union(AASU) General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Raijor Dal founded by the Krishan Mukti Sangram Samiti(KMSS) under the leadership of its president Akhil Gogoi.

Other regional political parties that play important roles in Assam Assembly Election are United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) and Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF). These two political parties have a strong presence in Lower Assam especially in BODOLAND TERRITORIAL REGION(BTR)

The interesting facts are that, none of the party whether it be a National or a Regional party is going to contest alone in this Assembly Election. All the political parties have tied up with one party or the other.

KMSS president Akhil Gogoi is in jail for over a year now. He is going to contest Assam Assembly Election from the prison. He has filed his nomination paper for the Shivsagar LAC seat and has urged the general public to vote against the CAA.

The Oppositions are trying to take all out the advantage of anti CAA sentiments in the state. Where congress is trying their best to highlight CAA issues in this Assam Assembly Election.

This 2021 Assam Assembly Election is going to be a triangular fight between BJP led alliances, Congress-led alliance and AJP and Raijor Dal combined.

Political parties and their allies

NDA led alliances comprised of three political parties including Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) led by Pramod Boro in Bodoland, and Assam Gana Parishad(AGP) led by Atul Bora. BJP has broken the ties with Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF) in Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR) and found a new ally UPPL. The alliance partners are confident that they would secure 100+ seat in the 126 Assam Assembly Constituencies.

UPPL led by Pramod Boro is currently ruling the Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR) in Assam in an alliance with BJP and GSP by defeating the influential political party of the council, Bodoland peoples front(BPF)

Mahajath is a combination of 7 different political parties including the Indian National Congress(INC), Bodoland peoples front(BPF) led by Hagrama Mohilary, CPI, CPI(M), CPI-ML, All India United Democratic Front(AIUDF) and Anchalik Gana Morcha.

The two newly formed regional parties namely Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and Raijor Dal have tied up together and have become free from the influence of any National Party. AJP has a strong backing of two Influential youths bodies in the state, the All Assam Students Union(ASSU) and Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad(AJYCP). All Assam Students Union(ASSU), Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad(AJYCP) and Krishan Mukti Sangram Samiti(KMSS) are all instrumental in Anti-CAA agitation.
