How to prepare Pork Momo?

Momo is a traditional dish popular in Asian countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, China, and now in regions of India. It is made with flour filled with vegetables or non-vegetables recipes. Momo is usually made with chicken, pork, or vegetables. It is traditionally served with some relishes(chutney). Below we will also see the recipes on how to make mouth-watering relishes(chutney).

This traditional dish to China and Tibet was brought to the rest of the world by the Tibetan Marchants. Tibetan by origin is a good Marchants. In almost every city of India, we find a Tibetan market. This Tibetan traditional dish brought to India by Tibetan merchants is now very popular in almost all the cities of India and became everyone loved dish.

Momos don’t come in one shape, it is made in different sizes and shapes according to the chef taste. Usually, we find Momo in a round and a half-moon shape because it’s easy to give this shape.

Preparation Time: 1 hour


  • Minced/Ground pork 500 grams
  • Spring onion
  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • 2 onion
  • One cup chopped Courgette/cabbage
  • Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Half tablespoon Ajinomoto
  • Three cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive/sunflower oil
  • 2 pieces chili
  • Salt to taste

How to prepare?

Making a dough.

  • Take the bowl and pour flour, water, and salt to taste. Start mixing and kneading the dough and if necessary add more flour or water so that it is not overwatered or dried.
  • Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and keep it aside for around 20 minutes.

Making staffing.

  • Take the bowl and add minced pork, ground onion, courgette/cabbage, chopped spring onion, chopped fresh coriander leaves, ginger-garlic paste, chopped chili, soy sauce, lime juice, Ajinomoto, oil, and a pinch of salt to taste altogether.
  • Mix it nicely so that everything comes together nicely.
  • Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave the mixture for 20 minutes.

Making a dumpling.

  • After 20 minutes have passed, divide the dough into two half.
  • Take one of the divided dough and roll it until it becomes a tiny layer rather than taking a small piece of dough and rolling it one by one. This will save time in making Momo wrap. Remember to make it thin just to hold the filling together.
  • Make a Momo wrap by cutting it out into a circle shape from the tiny rolled dough. You can even use the round shape tumbler to cut out the dough into a uniform circle shape dough. Then collect all the circle-shaped dough.
  • Put up the remaining unshaped dough together and rolled it into a tiny layer and again cut it into a circle shape with some round shape tumbler. Repeat the same process with the remaining dough.
  • Now take one piece of circle-shaped cut dough in your palm and add 1 teaspoon of filling in the middle of the dough and fold the dough in a way that forms a half-moon shape by pinching your three fingers.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining wraps.

How to cook Momo?

  • Take your steaming pot, fill the bottom pot with water till half and place it under the burning oven.
  • Now apply oil to the pot where the Momos will be steam. Make sure to leave enough space in between while placing the Momo. So that the Momo don’t touch. If the Momo touches each other while steaming it gets stick to each other and the Momo breaks off while we take it out.
  • Steam it for 15 minutes. Switch off the oven and take out the steamer. Now your delicious steamed pork Momo is ready to serve.
  • Serve this delicious mouthwatering pork Momo hot with some relishes(chutney).

Additional recipe: sesame(Til) and Red chili chutney.

Ingredients for (sesame) Til chutney.

  • Sesame 3 tablespoons
  • 1 medium-size onion
  • 10-15 dry hot red chili
  • 10-15 pieces of garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive/sunflower oil
  • 1 medium-size red tomato
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • Water for sprinkle and salt to taste

Ingredients for Red chili chutney

  • 2 medium-size tomato
  • 15 dry red hot chili
  • 10-15 garlic cloves
  • 1-inch ginger
  • I tablespoon olive oil/sunflower oil
  • I tablespoon lemon juice
  • Few fresh coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

How to prepare?

Making a sesame chutney.

  1. Cut the tomato and onion into the pieces and keep them aside.
  2. Heat the two tablespoons of oil in a pan and add cut onion, sesame, garlic, ginger, cut tomato, red chili, and salt to taste. Sprinkle some water on it and cook it for 4 – 5 minutes.
  3. After cooking for 4 – 5 minutes switch off the burner and leave it to cool down.
  4. When it cools down transfer it to a mixture, add the remaining ingredients coriander leaves, and lemon juice and grind it into a fine paste. By now your spicy sesame chutney is ready to serve with delicious pork Momo.

Making a chili chutney

  1. Chopped the tomato into pieces
  2. Take the mixture and put the chopped tomato, red chili, garlic cloves, ginger, oil, lemon juice coriander leaves in it.
  3. Now grind it until it turns into a fine paste. Now your red hot chilly chutney is ready to serve.

“The steamed Momo can also be served as a deep-fried Momo. To serve the Momo as a deep-fried. Heat some oil in a pan and fry the cool(room temperature) Momo in a hot pan till it becomes crunchy. Remember to cool down the Momo before deep-frying it. When we fry the steamed pork Momo it becomes crunchy from outside and juicy from inside. The deep-fried Momo perfectly marched with the above-mentioned chutney recipes”.
